新宿西口の「思い出横丁」から東口へ抜ける地下道 「角筈ガード」 (つのはず)へ繋がる旧青梅街道と「新宿パレットビル」。写真左側に思い出横丁が広がる。1984年当時の「新宿パレット」ビルは、新宿西口付近に戦後集まっていた露店が移転、整理して建てられたビル（新宿西口会館1963年竣工）でした。2000年に線路沿いの路地「七福小路」も含めて10階建てのビルに建て替えられた。新しい「新宿パレット」ビルの地下1F～4Fには「カメラのさくらや」が営業していたが、2008年12月末で閉店、2009年4月から「ユニクロ新宿西口店」が営業中である。2023年、線路沿いの露店店舗が撤去され、山手線が通り過ぎるのが目前に望める。大規模な新宿駅西口再開発事業計画が始まりましたが「新宿パレット」ビルと「思い出横丁」一帯は事業計画に参加していません。「思い出横丁」は新宿西口再開発が進む中で、昭和のレトロな雰囲気が楽しめる貴重なエリアです。
Shinjuku Palette Building 1984 ⇔ 2023
The Shinjuku Palette Building and the old Ome Kaido (Ome Kaido Road) leading from Shinjuku West Exit’s “Omoide Yokocho” to the “Tsunohazu Guard” (Tsunohazu Guard), an underground passageway leading to the East Exit. In 1984, the Shinjuku Palette Building was a building (Shinjuku Nishiguchi Kaikan, completed in 1963) that was built after the postwar stalls that had gathered near the Shinjuku West Exit were relocated and reorganized. In 2023, the open-air stores along the railroad tracks will be removed and the Yamanote Line will be seen passing by. A large-scale Shinjuku Station West Exit redevelopment project plan has begun, but the “Shinjuku Palette” building and the “Memories Yokocho” area are not part of the project plan.Amid the ongoing redevelopment of Shinjuku’s West Exit, “Omoide Yokocho” is a precious area where visitors can enjoy the retro atmosphere of the Showa period.
線路との間の一間ほどの間に6軒の店舗が並んでいた。別名「ロマンス小路」と言われていたようです。2000年に隣接する「新宿パレットビル」建て替えに伴い「七福小路」敷地も含めて10階建てのビルに建て替えられ、「七福小路」は消滅した。
Six stores were lined up in a one-ken space between the railroad tracks. It was called “Romance Alley” until around the 1950s. 2000, when the adjacent “Shinjuku Palette Building” was rebuilt, including the ” Shichifuku Koji” site, into a 10-story building, and “Shichifuku Koji” disappeared.
