1984年ごろの新宿西口の思い出横丁から東口へ抜ける地下道角筈ガード (つのはず)の西口側出入り口。正面に広がるのが、戦後すぐに形成された闇市を起源とする思い出横丁。2020年7月、新宿駅構内に東西自由通路が完成したが、それまではこの角筈ガードが多く使われていた。
この場所は戦後の新宿西口マーケット（現・思い出横丁）から始まった総合洋品店『洋品のイナバ』がありました。1964年『洋品のイナバ』を廃業して、同地に純喫茶『エデン』を開店。1987年『エデン』を改装し、自家焙煎『但馬屋珈琲店』を開店。
店名は、創業者の出身地『兵庫県但馬地方』に由来する。戦後77年間、線路沿いに在った露店建物も2023年5月に撤去され、フェンスに囲まれた空地が出現した。こんなに狭小だったとは！
Omoide Ykokocho “TANBAYA COFFEE STORE”1984⇔2023
The West Exit entrance of Tunohazu Guard , an underground passageway leading from Shinjuku West Exit’s Omoide Yokocho to the East Exit around 1984. In front of the entrance is the “Omoide Yokocho”, which originated from the black market that was formed immediately after World War II.
This location was home to the general western goods store “Yohin no Inaba,” which began as the Shinjuku Nishiguchi Market (now ” Omoide Yokocho”) in the postwar period.In 1964, “Inaba of Western Goods” was closed down and a pure coffee shop “Eden” was opened at the same location, and in 1987, “Eden” was renovated and a home-roasted “Tajimaya Coffee Shop” was opened.The name of the store is derived from the founder’s hometown in the Tajima region of Hyogo Prefecture.The stall building that stood along the railroad for 77 years after the war will be removed in May 2023, and a vacant lot surrounded by a fence will appear. I had no idea it was so small!
