1984年ごろの新宿駅東南口が続きます。
「昭和天皇即位記念碑」を囲むようにあった飲み屋街、戦後の闇市の名残りで不法占用した店舗が立ち並んで、戦後の猥雑さが残っていた。今なら足を運びたい雰囲気であるが、当時はまだまだ怖くて近づけなかった。

The area surrounding the monument to the Emperor Showa’s accession to the throne was lined with bars and stores that had been illegally occupied as remnants of the postwar black market. It was an atmosphere that I would like to visit now, but at that time, I was still too scared to approach it.
立ち退きも進み「建設省所有地」の看板も建てられ造成を待つ広場、監視のための詰所が２箇所もある。
1994年に、この小山を切り崩して現在の東南口広場ができた。
The eviction has progressed and a sign saying “Land owned by the Ministry of Construction” has been erected, and there is a plaza awaiting construction and two monitoring stations.
In 1994, this small mountain was cut down to create the current Southeast Exit Plaza.
