新宿駅東南口は駅前の一等地にもかかわらず、地元にとっては「昭和天皇即位記念碑」の建つ「御大典広場」であり、独特の土地形状から再開発がなかなか進まない場所でした。1994年に整備され現在の新宿駅東南口広場が完成しました。1928(昭和3)年、昭和天皇 即位を記念した石碑「御大典記念碑」は、西新宿の「十二社熊野神社」へ移設されています。

Despite being a prime location in front of the station, the southeast exit of Shinjuku Station is the “Odaiten Hiroba” where the “Showa Emperor’s Enthronement Memorial” is built, and it was a place where redevelopment was difficult due to its unique land shape. It was maintained in 1994 and the current Shinjuku Station Southeast Exit Square was completed. In 1928 (Showa 3), the stone monument “Odaiten Memorial” commemorating the throne of Emperor Showa was relocated to “Junisha Kumano Shrine” in Nishi-Shinjuku.
