乾門は江戸時代にはなかった門です。坂下門の内側にあった「西の丸裏門」を1888年（明治21年）の明治宮殿造営に際して移設し、黒の薬医門形式の門に改築したそうです。皇居から見て乾（いぬい）の方角にあるため、乾門と名づけられました。新年一般参賀などの皇居公開時では出口として使用されます。
Inui Gate, Imperial Palace 1984⇔2023
The Inuimon Gate was not built in the Edo period. The Nishinomaru Uramon, which was located inside the Sakashimon Gate, was moved when the Meiji Palace was built in 1888, and was reconstructed in the form of a black Yakuimon-style gate. The gate was named “Inui Gate” because of its location in the direction of Inui as seen from the Imperial Palace. It is used as an exit when the Imperial Palace is open to the public, such as for the New Year’s General Sentenga.
