Dotonbori Theater 1984⇔2023
There are various theories as to why the name “Dotonbori Theatre” is used even though it is located in Shibuya Dogenzaka. One theory is that the name “Dotonbori Gekijo” was chosen because the signboard was intended to read “Dogenzaka Gekijo,” but due to a mistake, the signboard read “Dotonbori Gekijo” and was used as is.
Hyakkendana is located on a side street off Dogenzaka. After the Great Kanto Earthquake, Hyakkendana developed as a glamorous place with movie theaters and theaters. After the war, when the black market spread in front of the station, this area away from the station regained its liveliness as a dining district with jazz cafes, restaurants, and theaters.
Today, the entrance on the Dogenzaka side of the street is home to a strip theater and a brothel information center, giving it a unique atmosphere. However, the area is evolving into a unique area with an increasing number of stores that have changed over the generations, while some old established establishments still remain.
道頓堀劇場1984⇔2023
渋谷道玄坂にあるのに「道頓堀劇場」なのは、諸説あります。シンプルにお笑いの本場大阪にあやかったという説。看板制作時に「道玄坂劇場」とするつもりが、手違いの為「道頓堀劇場」の看板が完成してしまい、それをそのまま使用したのが名称の由来という説など。
道玄坂から横道に入った百軒店（ひゃっけんだな）。関東大震災後に、映画館や劇場を中心とした華やかな場所として発展した百軒店。戦後、駅前に闇市が広がった時代に、駅から離れたこの地はジャズ喫茶やレストラン、テアトルの映画館などが立ち並ぶ飲食街としてにぎわいを取り戻した。
現在、道玄坂側の入り口にはストリップ劇場や風俗店案内所などがあって、独特の雰囲気を放っている。しかし、世代交代した店も増えつつ、昔ながらの老舗も残るユニークなエリアへと進化を遂げつつある。
