「角筈ガード」新宿西口思い出横丁から東口へ抜ける地下道。すぐ近くには、戦後すぐに形成された闇市を起源とする思い出横丁が今も残る。2023年5月、中央総武線各停が走り抜けるそのすぐ傍にフェンスに囲まれていた空地があらわれた。この隙間にあった怪しい「ペット屋」の記憶が僕の新宿原風景のひとつです。
Tsunohazu Guard 1983⇔2023
Tsunohazu Guard” is an underground passageway leading from Shinjuku West Exit’s Omoide Yokocho to the East Exit. In May 2023, a vacant lot surrounded by a fence appeared right next to where the Chuo Sobu Line train stops run through. The memory of a suspicious “pet shop” in this gap is one of my original Shinjuku landscapes.
新宿駅東口「マイシティ」は2006年にルミネエストと改称されたが、建物変わらず。ルミネエストのビルは、国鉄（当時）新宿駅とターミナルが離れている西武新宿線の乗り入れを想定した構造としましたが、10両編成のホーム長を確保出来なかったことから西武が乗り入れを断念し、今の西武新宿駅に駅ビルを造ったという歴史的経緯があります。
Shinjuku Station, but Seibu abandoned the idea of accommodating the line because it could not provide a platform length of 10 cars, and the station building was built at what is now Seibu Shinjuku Station, which has a historical background.
