新橋駅SL広場1984⇔2021
サラリーマンの聖地、TV街頭インタビューの定番スポット。SLはC11型蒸気機関車である。日本の鉄道開業100周年を記念して1972年に設置された。クリスマスイルミネーションに装飾されたSL。憩いの場だった噴水やベンチが撤去されている。時代の流れとともに、駅前広場の使われ方も変わってきた。

The SL is a C11 steam locomotive, a sacred place for businessmen and a regular spot for TV interviews. The SL is a C11 steam locomotive, installed in 1972 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Japan’s railroad system. The fountain and benches that used to be a place for relaxation have been removed. With the passage of time, the way the station square is used has also changed.

現在の駅は２代目で、1914年（大正３）の東京駅完成により東海道本線の起点の変更に伴い、それまでの烏森駅が新橋駅に改称された。初代新橋駅が汐留駅に改称されましたた。万世橋駅を参考に鉄道院が設計したルネサンス様式煉瓦造りであった。花壇の裏に車道があった。
1984年当時、レンガも一部店舗壁面で覆われていた。現在は創建時代の煉瓦を活用した改修がおこなわれ、花壇や噴水、車道も無くなりすっきりとした広場となりました。

he present station is the second generation. With the completion of Tokyo Station in 1914, the previous Karasumori Station was renamed Shinbashi Station due to the change in the starting point of the Tokaido Main Line. The first Shinbashi Station was renamed Shiodome Station. It was a Renaissance-style brick structure designed by the Railway Institute with reference to the Manseibashi Station. There was a driveway behind the flower bed.
In 1984, the bricks were also partially covered by store walls. Today, the bricks from the founding era have been renovated, and the flowerbeds, fountains, and driveways have been removed to create a clean plaza.
