1984年ごろ、富ヶ谷一丁目より代々木公園を望む。
代々木公園のあたりは、江戸後期はいくつかの大名の下屋敷がありました。明治維新後、民有地となり一面の茶畑・桑畑となっていました。1909年（明治42年）陸軍代々木練兵場となり、戦後は米軍の駐留軍家族の居留地（ワシントンハイツ）として利用され、東京オリンピックで一部を選手村として利用された。オリンピック後に約1/3樹木に覆われた東京で初めての森林公園として代々木公園が開園されました。

In the late Edo period、 the area around Yoyogi Park was home to the residences of several feudal lords. After the Meiji Restoration, the land became privately owned and was used as tea and mulberry fields. 1909, it became the Yoyogi Military Training Ground for the Army, and after the war, it was used as a settlement for U.S. military families stationed there (Washington Heights). After the Olympics, Yoyogi Park was opened as the first forest park in Tokyo, which was about 1/3 covered with trees.
1984年ごろの代々木公園です。歩行者天国です、奥の方の群衆は当時流行っていた「竹の子族」と観衆です。ラジカセを囲みド派手な衣装で路上で踊っていました。
This is Yoyogi Park in 1984. It was a pedestrian paradise, and the crowd in the back was the popular “Takenoko-zoku” and their spectators. The crowd in the back is the “Takenoko-zoku”, who were popular at the time, dancing on the street in flamboyant costumes around a boom box.
陸軍代々木練兵場は日本初飛行の地です。1910年（明治43）徳川好敏大尉のファルマン機が初飛行に成功しています。代々木公園南口近く、梅の園の一画に「日本航空発始之地記念碑」があります。
Yoyogi Military Training Ground is the site of Japan’s first flight, which was made in 1910 by Captain Yoshitoshi Tokugawa’s Farman aircraft.The monument is located near the south entrance of Yoyogi Park in a plum garden.
