1969年開業、ピンク×白ストライプの外観で「軍艦パジャマ」と呼ばれた赤坂東急ホテル。田中一光が手がけたその大胆なデザインは、日本におけるスーパーグラフィックの象徴でもありました。
2002年に「赤坂エクセルホテル東急」と改称。老朽化と賃貸契約終了により、2023年8月に営業終了。12月から解体が始まり、2025年秋、背後の衆議院議長公邸の木々が姿を現しました。
跡地では、東急不動産による新たな複合施設が進行中。2027年夏、赤坂の風景はまたひとつ変わります。

From “Battleship Pajamas” to the Future──Memories of Akasaka Tokyu Hotel
Opened in 1969, the Akasaka Tokyu Hotel was nicknamed “Battleship Pajamas” for its pink and white striped exterior. Its bold design by Tanaka Ikko also symbolized supergraphics in Japan.
Renamed “Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu” in 2002. Operations ceased in August 2023 due to aging infrastructure and the expiration of the lease agreement. Demolition began in December, revealing the trees of the House of Representatives Speaker’s Official Residence behind the site.
A new mixed-use complex by Tokyu Land Corporation is underway on the former site. By summer 2027, the landscape of Akasaka will change once again.
