鋭角の立地を活かした円柱形のエレベーター・タワー（シリンダーと呼ぶ）が特徴の「渋谷109」は1979年にオープンした。もともと大人の女性向けのファッションビルでしたが、1990年代のギャル文化の台頭により若者向けのファッションの聖地となりました。建築的にも渋谷のランドマークであり、40年以上にわたり渋谷の若者文化を牽引し、今後も変わり続ける渋谷の象徴としての役割を担っています。

Shibuya 109,” featuring a cylindrical elevator tower (called a cylinder) that takes advantage of its sharply angled location, opened in 1979. Originally a fashion building for adult women, it became a mecca for youth fashion with the rise of gal culture in the 1990s. Architecturally, it is a landmark of Shibuya and has been a driving force in Shibuya’s youth culture for more than 40 years, and continues to serve as a symbol of the ever-changing Shibuya area.
鋭角の立地を活かした円柱形のエレベーター・タワー内にある階段踊り場の窓からスクランブル交差点が一望できた。現在は残念ながら、窓は塞がれている(一部ステンドグラス)ため外をみることができない。
