東京大空襲で焼け野原となった代々木駅前にはバラックの店舗が建ち並んだ。1964年東京オリンピックに向けての道路拡張の為、バラックの移転先として代々木会館が建設された。その外観から「代々木の九龍城」とも呼ばれていた飲食店街のほか、パチンコ店、雀荘、ビリヤード場なども入居し、退去した後も看板は残されていた。開館した時から入居していた中国書籍専門店「東豊書店」はビルの閉鎖・解体まで営業していた。萩原健一と水谷豊扮する私立探偵を主役に、1974年から放送されたTVドラマ「傷だらけの天使」で登場する「エンジェルビル」のロケ地として有名。また、2019年のアニメーション映画『天気の子』の舞台にもなった。2023年、跡地には地上9階建てのオフィスビル「プレンジ代々木」が建てられた。
Yoyogi Kaikan 1984⇔2023
After the Tokyo Air Raid, the area in front of Yoyogi Station was burnt to the ground and lined with barracks of stores, and the Yoyogi Kaikan was built to relocate the barracks in order to expand the road for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In addition to the restaurant district, which was also called “Kowloon Castle of Yoyogi” because of its appearance, pachinko parlors, mahjong parlors, billiard halls, etc. also moved in, and their signs remained after they moved out. Touhou Bookstore, a Chinese bookstore that had occupied the building since its opening, remained open until the building was closed and demolished. The building is famous as the location for the “Angel Building,” which appears in the TV drama “The Wounded Angel,” starring Kenichi Hagiwara and Yutaka Mizutani as private detectives, which aired from 1974. It was also the setting for the 2019 animated film “Weather Child”.In 2023, a nine-story office building, Plenge Yoyogi, was built on the site.
