Gotanda Station Kokudo No1 1984⇔2021
View of Sakurada-dori (National Highway No. 1) from the Yamanote Line platform of Gotanda Station. Sakurada-dori is an ancient road that has existed since before the Middle Ages, and until the Tokaido highway was established in the Edo period, it was the main road from Edo to the west.
From its starting point at Sakuradamon intersection, Sakurada Dori crosses Yamate Dori after passing Gotanda Station, where the road ends. From there on, Route 1 is the Second Keihin. The sky has become a little narrower, but the scenery has not changed.
五反田・国道１号 1984⇔2021
五反田駅山手線ホームより桜田通り（国道１号）を望む。桜田通りは中世以前から存在する古道であり、江戸時代に東海道が整備されるまでは、江戸から西への街道でした。
起点の桜田門交差点から、ここ五反田駅を過ぎると山手通りと交差し、ここで桜田通りは終点。そこから先の国道1号は第二京浜です。やや空が狭くなったものの、変わらぬ風景がありました。

When I took this photo in 1984, I didn’t even think about it. 37 years later, in the year 2020, I never thought that it would be interesting to take a photo of the same place from the same position and angle today and compare them. Would I have thought of that? When I posted the photos on Instagram, I received responses from all over the world.
The photos have been reborn as a photo book. I have such a deep feeling. The previous book, “Tokyo Time Slip 1984⇔2021,” was picked up by many media outlets, and by the end of 2021, it was in its fifth printing, with a total circulation of over 10,000 copies in the seven months since its release. I am glad that I have been doing “photography” for 40 years, and it is a great honor to be a photographer.
It was a great encouragement for me in the future.

新旧をフォトシークエンス（連続）として提示することのおもしろさ、楽しさ。1984年の撮影当時、そんなことは気にもかけていませんでした。37年後の2020 年、同じ場所を現在の同位置・同角度から撮影して比較できたら面白いかも、なんて思いつくとは、当時の私は考えたでしょうか？ インスタグラムで公開すると世界中から反響がありました。
写真集となって、さらに写真が生まれ変わった。そんな感慨があります。前作「東京タイムスリップ1984⇔2021」は多くのメディアにも取り上げていただきました。2021年末には５刷りとなり、発売後７ヶ月間で総発行部数は１万部以上になり。1980年代の東京を知らない若い世代や海外からもSNSを通じて、ヴィヴィッドな反応が寄せられました。40年間「写真」を続けてきて良かった、写真家冥利です。
今後への大きな励みになりました。
