今日は「昭和の日」。2007年（平成19年）に制定された祝日で、日付は昭和天皇の誕生日です。
その趣旨は、「激動の日々を経て、復興を遂げた昭和の時代を顧（かえり）み、国の将来に思いをいたす」とされています。
「昭和天皇即位記念碑」が新宿駅前にありました。
Today is “Showa Day,” a national holiday established in 2007 (Heisei 19) to celebrate the birthday of Emperor Showa.
The purpose of the day is to “reflect on the Showa period, which was a time of reconstruction after turbulent days, and to think about the future of the country.A monument commemorating the Emperor Showa’s accession to the throne was build in front of Shinjuku Station.
新宿駅東南口広場 1984⇔2025
新宿駅東南口広場は石垣で囲まれた小山でした。「御大典広場」と呼ばれ「昭和天皇即位記念碑」(1928年、昭和3年建立)がありました。その周りには戦後の闇市からはじまった小さな飲食店や飲み屋が連なってた。再開発によって、記念碑は西新宿の十二社熊野神社に移設移転され、飲食店は撤去され小山は切り崩され。現在の広場となって完成したのは1994年(平成6年)です。
Shinjuku Station Southeast Exit 1984⇔2025
The southeast exit square of Shinjuku station was a small mountain surrounded by stone walls. There was a “Showa Emperor’s Enthronement Memorial” (built in 1928)which was called “Odaiten Hiroba”. There were also small restaurants and bars that started in the black market after the war. Due to the redevelopment, the monument was relocated to Kumano Shrine, a twelve shrine in Nishi-Shinjuku, restaurants were removed, and Oyama was cut down. It was completed in 1994 as the current plaza.
