東京・原宿のシンボルであった旧JR山手線原宿駅の駅舎の外観が、2026年冬に復元されることがJR東日本から発表されました。新しい商業施設の一部として再現され、旧駅舎が元あった場所から渋谷側に約8メートル移動する予定ですが、規模は同じです。旧駅舎は1924年に完成し、「ハーフティンバー」と呼ばれる西欧の建築様式が特徴でした。戦時中の空襲から免れたものの、老朽化のため2020年に解体されました。JR東日本は旧駅舎の資材を保管しており、風見鶏やステンドグラスの再使用も検討しています。可能な限り旧駅舎の特徴的な外観を再現したいとのことです。楽しみですね。

Old Harajuku Station Building to be restored in winter 2026: weathercocks and stained glass windows to be reproduced.
JR East has announced that the exterior of the former Harajuku Station building on the JR Yamanote Line, once a symbol of Harajuku, Tokyo, will be restored in winter 2026. It will be recreated as part of a new commercial facility and will be moved approximately 8 meters from where the old station building was originally located to the Shibuya side, but on the same scale. The old station building was completed in 1924 and featured a Western European architectural style known as “half-timbering. Although it was spared from air raids during the war, it was demolished in 2020 due to its age; JR East is storing materials from the old station building and is considering reusing the weathervane and stained glass. They hope to recreate the distinctive appearance of the old station building as much as possible. We are looking forward to it.
