Female junior and senior high school students watch male idols on “ALTA VISION” from the Shinjuku Station East Exit Plaza. Alta Vision,” a super-sized video monitor installed on the wall of a building, is a pioneer in the field of street visions. On the site of the former Odakyu Department Store, a 48-story building (260 m high) with offices is scheduled for completion around 2029. The Keio Department Store and Shinjuku Millod along the west exit and Shinjuku Lumine Est at the east exit are also expected to be reconstructed. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Shinjuku City have announced the “Shinjuku Grand Terminal” concept and are promoting urban development around the station with an eye toward the 2040s. What will Shinjuku Station look like in 10 to 20 years?
新宿駅東口広場より「アルタビジョン」に映し出された男性アイドルに見入る女子中高生たち。ビル壁面に設置され ている超大型映像モニター「アルタビジョン」は、街頭ビジョンの草分け的存在である。制服のスカート丈が長い女子中高生たち、カメラを手に持つ女子は数人。レンズ付きフィルムの「写ルンです」(富士フイルム)も 1986 年 7 月より販売されたため、この頃はまだしっかりと目に焼き付けるしかなかったのだ。現在は新しく設置された「クロス新宿ビジョン」に現れる3Dの「巨 大猫」動画をスマートフォンで撮影する人々でにぎわっている。 2023年5月、新宿駅西口の再開発工事に伴い「小田急百貨店」の解体工事が進められている。その跡地にはオフィスを備えた 48 階建て(高さ 260m)の建物が 2029 年頃の完成を予定し ている。西口並びの京王百貨店や新宿ミロード、東口の新宿ル ミネエストも建て替えが確実視される。 東京都と新宿区は「新宿グランドターミナル」構想を公表し、 2040年代を見据えた駅周辺の街作りを推進している。10年後、 20 年後には果たしてどのような景色になっているのか。新宿駅は大きく変貌していく。

Studio ALTA opened in April 1980 and was monochrome vision until 1992. The origin of ALTA is “ALTernAtive”something new against something existing, always transmitting new things.The Second Aoki Building (completed in 1968) next to Alta is being reconstructed.

スタジオアルタは1980年4月開設、1992年まではモノクロビジョンでした。アルタの由来は「ALTernAtive」「既存のものに対する新しいもの、常に新しいモノを発信する」。アルタ隣の「第二アオキビル」（1968年竣工）は建替中。
