上野駅の改良に合わせた東京都と台東区の施策で、上野駅の西側を南北に通っていた一方通行の車道が、公園口改札の前にバス乗り場やタクシー乗り場を配したロータリーを設け通りぬけできなくなった。駅への自家用車への送迎は可能としたが、上野公園や駅に関係のない通り抜けの自動車はきれいにいなくなり、安全で快適な散歩道が出来上がった。
Ueno Station Park Exit 1986⇔2021
As a result of a measure taken by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Taito City in conjunction with improvements to Ueno Station, the one-way roadway running north-south on the west side of Ueno Station was closed off in front of the Park Exit ticket gates by creating a roundabout with a bus stop and cab stand. Although private cars are now allowed to take passengers to and from the station, cars passing through that have nothing to do with Ueno Park or the station have been neatly eliminated, creating a safe and comfortable walking path.
